How Do I Play Ladbrokes 5-A-Side?

The first step is to choose an upcoming football match as per the below screengrab. I chose Liverpool v Arsenal as this was the one that provided the most interest.

Now comes the exciting part!

Ladbrokes invite you to pick your very own 5-a-side football team comprising of players that you think will do well in a fixture. It’s a case of doing the following:

  1. Pick your formation – do you go attacking or defensive?
  2. Choose your players – look at the stats to get the ultimate lowdown
  3. Choose your stats – it’s all about controlling the ‘stat value’ to get the odds
  4. Build your team – the all-important team selection before placing your bet!

What Ladbrokes 5-A-Side Formations Can I Choose?

There are lots of ways to approach the Ladbrokes 5-A-Side promotion and this all starts with selecting a formation. Ultimately, you want to have five players in your team who are able to achieve their mission within the match. Therefore, you might want to focus on a mix of defensive and attacking players or alternatively go defender or attacker-heavy depending on what type of match you are expecting.

Here are the formations available to choose:

  • Balanced – featuring a keeper (to concede), a hacker (to be carded), a baller (to achieve a set number of passes), a sniper (to have a certain number of shots) and a finisher (to score goals)
  • All Out Attack – featuring a keeper, a hacker, two snipers and a finisher
  • Rush Goalie – featuring a hacker, a playmaker (to create assists), a sniper and two finishers
  • Park the Bus – featuring a keeper, two hackers, a cruncher (to make tackles) and a chancer (to have shots from outside the box)
  • Gung-Ho – featuring a baller, a playmaker, a sniper, a finisher and a sharp-shooter (to have shots on target)
  • Shoot on Sight – featuring a keeper, a chancer, a sniper, a sharp-shooter and a finisher

As you can see, there are six different formations available and it all boils down to the type of game that you are expecting. For example, All Out Attack and Gung Ho are great 5-a-side options if you’re thinking that goals will be on the menu, while Balanced or Park the Bus could be the right options if you’re going for a more conservative approach.

For the Liverpool v Arsenal match, I selected the All Out Attack option due to the fact that both teams are attack-minded and previous matches between the sides had seen a large number of goals being scored. Now comes the part where I pick my Ladbrokes 5-A-Side team!

How Do I Pick My Ladbrokes 5-A-Side Team?

When picking a Ladbrokes 5-A-Side team, you have to select players that are going to achieve a certain target during the football match in question.

The first job is to select a keeper and you choose a player from the keeper list who you expect to concede a set number of goals. For this match, I selected Bernd Leno to concede 2+ goals, thinking that Liverpool would manage that tally.

My next job was to add a hacker to my team. I knew it was fairly likely that a few yellow cards would be shown during the match and my spidey senses told me that Granit Xhaka was likely to find himself in the referee’s book during the ninety minutes. Therefore, I added in a second Arsenal player to my 5-a-side team.

Now I had to choose two Snipers and it all came down to the players who I thought could record a certain number of shots during the Liverpool v Arsenal match. Mohamed Salah was averaging 6.5 shots per game, so I added the Egyptian King to have 5+ shots during this clash, while his team-mate Sadio Mane was also picked out to have 3+ shots based on the fact that he had previously scored two goals away to Chelsea.

Now I just needed to add one further player and I had my Ladbrokes 5-A-Side football team ready for the big game! Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had previously scored against Liverpool in a Community Shield match and I figured it would balance things out a little if I included an attacking Arsenal player in the mix.

Now I had my Ladbrokes 5-A-Side team as per the below:

As you can see, it’s a bit like having a Bet Builder or Same Game Multi in the sense that you are picking different players to achieve their missions and putting them together in a neat little multiple bet.

What I really love about this Ladbrokes promotion is that players can work in tandem to help you win your bet. For example, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane having plenty of shots could lead to goals being scored past the opposition goalkeeper who is also in my 5-a-side team.

Once you have put together your team with the various selections, then you simply have to choose the stake that you want to place at the available odds. As you can see, I’ve got a tasty little 18/1 shot with the above and don’t need to lay out a huge stake to achieve a decent return.

What is the Best Betting Strategy for Ladbrokes 5-A-Side?

As you can see, there are lots of way to play this Ladbrokes 5-A-Side promotion and it’s a relatively new game although I’ve already figured out a few pointers which should make sure that readers have a puncher’s chance of beating the bookie and landing a strong return as per my other football acca tips.

Here are a few Ladbrokes 5-A-Side Betting Tips:

  1. What Sort of Football Match Are You Expecting?

Before you even go ahead and pick out a formation for your 5-a-side team, ask yourself what you’re expecting to happen in the game. Are you anticipating plenty of goals being scored or do you think it will be a defensive clash? Is this the sort of game where yellow and red cards could be on the table or do you think the referee won’t be busy in that department. Having a firm view of a game will help you shape your formation and team.

  • Study the Stats

The great news is that Ladbrokes have stats available for every player who is available for selection. So for example, if you’re selecting a player to be booked in the game, you can see how many yellow cards have already been accrued this season. The same applies to stats such as passes, goals and shots from outside the box. Be sure that your view is backed by evidence.

  • Pick Players Who Are Likely Starters

Nobody has a crystal ball although you should be able to form a strong idea of the players who are most likely to start each game. There are enough resources out there to make sure you have a 5-a-side team who line up from kick-off. Confirmed team news generally comes through about an hour before kick-off, so there’s the option to wait for this. If one of your players doesn’t feature at all, then that selection is voided and you can still win with your other picks.

  • Don’t Be Too Ambitious With Your Player Missions

The temptation with football accumulators is to try and bump up the odds as big as possible. After all, if you’re staking a few quid, you might as well aim to land the biggest possible profit! However, the reality is that I would rather pick out a few conservative selections for the Ladbrokes 5-A-Side promotion knowing that the short odds will get multiplied with four other selections.

  • Treat Ladbrokes 5-A-Side Like a Football Accumulator

Think about this promotion like a five-fold accumulator where we want different things to happen in the same match. The bottom line is that if one player fails to achieve the target that you’ve set them, then the whole bet will lose irrespective of whether the other four players end up flourishing in your five-a-side team.

It’s better to set a lower benchmark for a player and win rather than have five players with ambitious targets that will ultimately set your bet up for a fall.
