Can Wrexham Make it to the Premier League Next Season?

Wrexham have had a whirlwind few seasons. Five years ago, the Welsh club were on their knees although the ownership of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have transformed the club’s fortunes in a big way.

Millions of people all over the world have watched the Welcome to Wrexham documentary which has showcased the rise of the team. They have enjoyed three successive promotions to go from the National League right up to the Championship after landing automatic promotion in League One last term.

Now Phil Parkinson’s side are preparing for life in the second flight. They will be brushing shoulders with the likes of Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich, although the bookmakers don’t expect them to be outclassed. In fact, the Red Dragons have been installed as one of the favourites to get promotion to the top flight.

What Are Wrexham’s Odds to Land Promotion to the Premier League?

Wrexham are trading at odds of 6.50 with bet365 to land promotion to the Premier League. That means that they are given a roughly 15% chance of a fourth successive promotion and they could be in the mix. Parkinson has looked to strengthen the squad once again this summer and this means that star forward Paul Mullin has moved on.

In his place, the Welsh side have captured centre forward Ryan Hardie, with more new recruits sure to be arriving at The Racecourse in the coming weeks. They are given a sporting chance of landing a place in the top six and potentially a play-off place which would be a shot at reaching the big time.

Wrexham are at odds of 3.75 to finish sixth or higher, with this meaning around 25% chance of finishing above seventh spot. They are priced at similar odds to Norwich City and West Brom, although it might be that a season of consolidation could be on the cards instead.

Who Are Championship Promotion Favourites?

Ipswich Town are the outright favourites to win the Championship title. Kieran McKenna steered the Tractor Boys to a double promotion from League One to Premier League before they came back down last season. Now they will benefit from parachute payment money along with the proceeds of the Liam Delap sale.

Southampton are also expected to go well. Young manager Will Still has been given the reins at St Mary’s and it will be interesting to see how he fares in his first proper managerial job in England. The third relegated team are Leicester City although they’re operating at a bigger price than the other two sides who have come down.

Birmingham City were promoted along with Wrexham from League One last term, with the Blues walking their way to the title. It might be that the Midlands side are able to achieve a double promotion, with Coventry City and Middlesbrough other teams who could be in the mix to get in the play-offs.
