Premier League Season Handicap Betting

There are lots of ante post Premier League Season betting markets and one of the most popular is the Season Handicap Winner. This involves a bookmaker giving every team (apart from Manchester City) a fictional points advantage. For example, Chelsea are +7 with one bookmaker and Norwich are +46.

A customer has to scan through the list of teams and predict which side will end up with the biggest points total when their actual total is added to their handicap. For example, if Chelsea land 100 points during the 2021-22 Premier League season and they have the +7 added on, it’s likely that they will win with a grand total of 107 points.

What Betting Odds are Available for Season Handicap?

Bookmakers bet365 and William Hill currently have 15/1 available about each of the twenty teams in the Premier League. This means you can enjoy a big return by correctly predicting the team who are able to emerge with the biggest overall total and there is also the chance to place an each-way bet where you can get 1/4 odds for the first four places.

You might find that the most popular selections will see their odds cut and that is the case with Betfred who have already shortened Manchester City to 11/1 off scratch, with this bookie regarding Pep Guardiola’s side as more likely to win despite the fact that they are giving the nineteen other team some kind of points headstart.

Which Teams Look a Good Bet on Season Handicap?

Bookmaker bet365 have 15/1 about every team on the Season Handicap market. Manchester City are off scratch, Norwich City are off +46 and the other eighteen teams are somewhere in between. Essentially, we are looking for a team to punch above their weight in the same way that West Ham United did last season when finishing sixth with a grand total of 65 points.

If Aston Villa are able to keep Jack Grealish this summer, then Dean Smith’s side could be an attractive bet with a +28 advantage over Manchester City. This handicap also gives them a solid headstart over the other leading clubs in the division and they certainly enjoyed an upward trajectory last term after scrapping against relegation last term.

Summer Transfers come in to play

Manchester United have been splashing the cash this summer to secure the signatures of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, with the pair likely to strengthen the Red Devils’ title credentials and you can back the north-west side at 15/1 with a +8 points start which could make them a lively runner on this market. Learn more about the league with the official Premier League Statistics which are freely available.

United were only twelve points behind Manchester City last term despite a sluggish start to the campaign and perhaps they can hit the ground running this time around, with Sancho in particular likely to add some energy and quality from a wide position.

Leeds United also catch the eye and should be capable of being even more competitive after delivering a points total of 59 points last season and Marcelo Bielsa will now be looking to use this return as a platform for next season, with Raphinha and  Jack Harrison expected to drive the team forward.
